Enjoy a throwback interview of Gerard Schwarz and Earl Wild on Today in New York in the late 80s:
The French Influence: Music for Trumpet and Piano
Gerard Schwarz, trumpet
Kun Woo Paik, piano
If you were into classical trumpet music as far back as the 1970s, you no doubt first knew Gerard Schwarz as one of the world’s leading virtuosos of his instrument. Of course, we all know him now as one of the world’s most revered conductors. Delos is doubly blessed to have captured both aspects of his versatile musical persona on record. His 1979 Delos recording (as both soloist and conductor) of The Classic Trumpet Concerti of Haydn/Hummel (DE 3001) garnered a Grammy nomination.
