If you follow important news within the world of opera (or this blog), you already know that just last June, he was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor, and was forced to cancel all of his summer engagements while undergoing treatment. Needless to say, this news generated a huge wave of alarm and concern from his legions of fans worldwide.
Yet just last month, Dmitri gave his worried public an incredible gift of comfort and reassurance when he returned to the Metropolitan Opera to appear as Count di Luna in the first three outings of this year’s production of Verdi’s Il Trovatore … before returning to London for further treatment. And that glorious voice was, by all accounts, as magnificent as ever.
