Delos Matinée Idols* sing Matinee:
Dmitri Hvorostovsky and Sondra Radvanovsky electrified audiences throughout the country this past Saturday, April 30, in the Metropolitan Opera live simulcast of Il Trovatore. Glorious singing and riveting characterizations made this a Trovatore to remember. For those of us experiencing this extraordinary performance in one of the movie theaters hosting the simulcast, we were THERE. We couldn’t help shouting “Bravo! Bravissimo!” and “Brava! Bravissima!” while applauding as enthusiastically as did the Met audience. Yes, the rational brain was aware that the singers couldn’t hear our shouts all the way to New York City, but such powerful live performances arouse a rapturous response. This was Sondra’s first simulcast, as she explains in the delightful podcast interview with Lindsay Koob, and it was an unquestionable triumph. A wonderful day for Delos and Delos fans, as Sondra and Dmitri gave us a glimpse of what they offer on their new Verdi Scenes CD; and Sondra continued to demonstrate why her recent Verdi Arias album has received so many wonderful reviews. If you were part of the extended audience, tell us in the blog comments what your responses were, and where you saw the simulcast.
*Matinée idol is a term used mainly to describe film or theatre stars who are adored to the point of adulation by their fans.
