It’s hardly surprising that orchestras and opera houses everywhere are still mounting memorial concerts and other events honoring the late, great Dmitri Hvorostovsky (known to us at Delos as “Dima”): perhaps the greatest Verdi baritone of our times. The latest celebration of his matchless art is today’s special concert in Kaunas, Lithuania, where Delos’s two releases of the complete Verdi operas Simon Boccanegra (DE 3457) and Rigoletto (DE 3522) were recorded.
The performer lineup includes all of the Lithuanian artists who were featured in both recordings: the Kaunas City Symphony Orchestra and Kaunas State Choir, plus all of the Lithuanian singers involved (see attached concert poster for their names) … all under the deft baton of maestro Constantine Orbelian, who conducted both recordings.
Allow us to remind you that the latter album has been nominated for a 2019 GRAMMY in the Best Opera Recording category. So please keep your fingers crossed that Rigoletto gets the GRAMMY
