American Record Guide reviews Oksana Volkova, Constantine Orbelian, and the Kaunas City Symphony’s Poison d’Amour recording:
“Oksana Volkova has a gorgeous, seductive voice that could be likened to warm butter dripping off a fresh, hot biscuit. From top to bottom there are no holes in her beautiful mezzo-soprano. …Her choice of repertoire is intelligent. She seduces us with two of Dalila’s arias, making one hope she’ll record the entire role some day. Her account of Charlotte’s `Va! Laisse couler mes larmes’ is heartbreaking without going overboard. Carmen’s `Seguidilla’ makes one wish she had included more of that role. …Marfa’s Divination aria is mesmerizing as she conveys the subtext of a seemingly placid, but formidable woman. …The sound captures the voice well; and, as always, Constantine Orebelian is a solicitous conductor. Texts and translations.”
