Delos is pleased to announce that Grammy-winning soprano Hila Plitmann has recorded a new work by composer Mark Abel for future release. The piece is a five-song cycle titled “The Palm Trees Are Restless,” which sets verses of Los Angeles poet Kate Gale.
Tali Tadmor was the pianist on the session, which was produced by Abel and Delos Director Carol Rosenberger at the Henson Recording Studios in Hollywood.
Hila Plitmann has recorded and performed the works of such celebrated composers as John Corigliano, David Del Tredici, Richard Danielpour, Aaron Jay Kernis, Thomas Ades and George Benjamin. A frequent guest soloist with ensembles including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, New York Philharmonic and the Chicago, Detroit, Atlanta, National, Pittsburgh and Pacific symphonies, she has sung under the direction of Esa-Pekka Salonen, Leonard Slatkin, Kurt Masur, Jo Ann Falletta, Carl St. Clair and Robert Spano.
In addition to her work as a poet, Kate Gale is well known nationally as an educator and lecturer, and as the co-founder of the Red Hen Press in Los Angeles. The powerful poems set in “The Palm Trees Are Restless” appear in her recent volume “Echo Light.”
