Tampa Bay Times performing arts critic, John Fleming, gives his top CD picks, and new ALIAS Chamber Ensemble release Boiling Point makes his cut. In his feature, Fleming compares Boiling Point to Yo-Yo Ma’s smash success The Goat Rodeo Sessions, and says why it makes his list:
“Why we care: Alias Chamber Ensemble has a knack for interesting projects, here following up its first album of music by Gabriela Lena Frank with a collection of five works by Kenji Bunch, a Japanese-American composer in Brooklyn…
“Why we like it: String Circle is Bunch’s take on bluegrass fiddling, Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys, and guitar picking, wrapped around a setting of Wayfaring Stranger…and a whistling teakettle.”
