It has come to our attention that the fabulous young Russian pianist (and Delos recording artist) Andrey Gugnin came away with First Prize last week at Australia’s Sydney International Piano Competition!
This came as no surprise to us at Delos, since Andrey has distinguished himself with top awards from several other prestigious competitions as well. Chief among these is his victory at the 2014 Gina Bachauer International Competition … see our post on that win HERE.
Besides – as was mentioned in that post, Andrey and his fellow Delos artist & piano-duo partner Vadym Kholodenko—who won the 2013 Van Cliburn competition—released a stunning album on Delos of duo-piano classics (iDuo, DE 3405).
Then there’s Andrey’s other glittering recording on Delos of the two Shostakovich piano concertos (DE 3366), made with maestro Constantine Orbelian. Their stellar collaboration was honored when the recording was used in the Oscar-nominated film Bridge of Spies.
So if you aren’t familiar with this amazing artist’s spectacular playing, you owe it to yourself to give it a listen!
