In 1973 the indomitable Amelia Haygood founded “a label with a strong personality that not only attracted a host of major performers but which also gained plaudits for its technical excellence.” Delos quickly became a leader in digital recording, partnering with America’s finest artists like Carol Rosenberger, Gerard Schwarz, Eugene Ormandy and the Philadelphia Orchestra, David Shifrin, and Janos Starker. As conductor Constantine Orbelian joined the label, Delos expanded its catalog with a star-studded opera series featuring artists like Dmitri Hvorostovsky, Lawrence Brownlee, and Isabel Leonard. Through 50 years, Delos has remained true to Amelia Haygood’s singular spirit and philosophy. As part of our 50th Anniversary Celebrations, Apple Music has launched a new curator profile for Delos, along with three new playlists – and more to come throughout the anniversary year!
