Orchestral:
We offer a wide range of symphonic music, in recordings from top overseas-based (non-AFM) ensembles in England, Scotland, Russia and Monte Carlo. Particularly impressive are the 30-plus recordings from the famed Moscow Chamber Orchestra and the Philharmonia of Russia, both under their Music Director Constantine Orbelian. Delos has exclusive contract with both orchestras and Maestro Orbelian, and can offer first-rate soundtrack recordings to fit your budget. Delos also offers symphonic recordings that were made on a buyout basis with leading American orchestras like the Seattle Symphony, the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra and the New York Chamber Symphony.
Vocal and Opera:
Opera stars like Dmitri Hvorostovsky, Hei-Kyung Hong, Sondra Radvanovsky and Renee Fleming are featured in the Delos catalog of vocal music available for licensing. Soprano supreme Arleen Auger made her celebrated “Love Songs” recording on Delos. The legendary Ewa Podles has also made a lasting impression with her pair of Delos CDs. Our catalog further includes notable albums by tenors John Aler, Donald George and Michael Spyres.
Choral:
The thrilling choral singing on Delos leads off with one of the world’s top professional chamber choirs, Dennis Keene’s New York-based Voices of Ascension – with which Delos has an exclusive recording contract. From California to Moscow – from the Westminster Choir to the Spiritual Revival Choir of Russia – Delos’ range of choral music spans medieval to modern eras, all delivered in lush and spine-tingling sound.
Guitar:
Delos’ roster of leading guitar masters includes Paul Galbraith, Celedonio and Angel Romero, plus the Los Angeles and recently GRAMMY-nominated Brazilian Guitar Quartets. A recent addition is the young Italian virtuoso Emanuele Segre, in a stunning two-disc set of Spanish music spanning three centuries. Smaro Gregoriadou’s new album, “Reinventing the Guitar,” has made quite an impression.
Piano:
The great American pianists Carol Rosenberger and John Browning are among Delos’ favorite keyboard virtuosos. Browning’s Liszt and Rachmaninoff CDs are firm classics in their genre. Rosenberger’s shimmering recordings – made on her amazing Bösendorfer Imperial Concert Grand – range from sensitive readings of Schubert and Beethoven to her acclaimed “Water Music of the Impressionists;” as well as her authoritative collection of romantic and impressionist concertos. Her ground-breaking “Perchance to Dream” began the label’s venture into music for the very young, ushering in the multi-artist “Baby Needs” series: an ongoing label favorite. The dynamic “iDuo” piano duo recently became Delos artists with bracing performances of impressionist and late romantic repertoire, and Andrew von Oeyen – one of today’s “hottest” young virtuosos – has lately joined the ranks of Delos artists with his brilliant survey of Liszt masterpieces.
Harp:
Harpist extraordinaire Susann McDonald’s “World of the Harp” is one of the most famous harp recordings anywhere. The Glorian Duo contributed a luscious flute-and-harp recording, “Sounds of the Seine,” and Tatiana Oskolkova’s album with the Moscow Chamber orchestra offers superb performances of Mozart and Ravel.
Cello, Violin
Revered cello master Janos Starker has made a number of definitive recordings for Delos, as have fiery American cellist Zuill Bailey and young Russian competition winners Boris Andrianov and Alexander Bouzlov. A recent release features Emanuel Gruber performing Mendelssohn’s complete works for cello and piano. The plush sound of massed cellos can be heard on two CDs by the Yale Cellos. Delos’s international roster of distinguished violinists includes erstwhile American prodigy Corey Cerovsek, Russian wizard Sasha Rozhdestvensky, Greek virtuoso Leonidas Kavakos, Taiwanese star Nai-Yuan Hu (“Kate and Leopold”), the amazing duo led by Dmitri Kogan, and the remarkable solo work of orchestral members in “Stars of the Moscow Chamber Orchestra.”
Flute, Oboe, English horn, Clarinet
Flute wizard Joshua Smith has recently made two ravishing Bach recordings for Delos. Italian flutist Raffaele Trevisani (James Galway’s heir apparent) plays the golden flute given him by Galway on a number of glittering Delos albums from Mozart to the romantics. Among Eugenia Zukerman’s offerings on Delos is her inimitable reworking of favorite arias for flute. Allan Vogel dominates the oboe field with “Oboe Obsession” and gorgeous readings of Bach and Mozart. “Plaintive Melody” says it all for Thomas Stacy’s poignant offerings on the English horn. David Shifrin’s list of masterly recordings includes the beloved Mozart Clarinet Concerto with the New York Chamber Symphony – an all-time Delos favorite.
Trumpet, Trombone
Gerard Schwarz “trumpeted” Delos’ pioneering move into digital recording with two CDs of trumpet concertos, backed up by the New York Chamber Symphony – and the world has never been the same since … Trombone virtuoso Christian Lindberg offers an unforgettable performance in music of Alan Hovhaness.
Brass Ensemble:
One of Delos’ most celebrated early digital recordings featured the American Brass Quintet – and it still sounds great! Subsequent recordings of the Millar Brass Ensemble and the Chicago Brass Quintet have further captured this instrumental family’s uniquely brilliant and glorious sonorities. Our latest foray into the wonderful world of brasses comes courtesy of the da Capo ensemble, in their debut recording.
Chamber Ensemble
The Shanghai String Quartet’s collection of beautiful recordings on Delos extends from Mozart and Beethoven to Hovhaness and the group’s well-known Chinese folk song arrangements. The Canadian Orford Quartet drew superlatives for their complete Beethoven string quartets. Among the remarkable recordings done by the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center are a winning Dvorak album and the complete chamber music of Debussy.
Saxophone
Italian saxophone virtuoso Federico Mondelci – an exclusive Delos artist – has created a sensation with his collection of Piazzolla tangos. His newest album features arrangements of Italian movie music by Morricone, Molinelli and Rota. Delos also has an exclusive contract with the Italian Saxophone Quartet, founded by Mondelci. Eugene Rousseau’s evergreen “Saxophone Colors” is a staple of the Delos catalog.
Pipe Organ
More than 25 sonically spectacular recordings grace the Delos catalog – from a broad variety of exceptional pipe organs and top performers (like David Briggs, Catharine Crozier, etc.). GRAMMY-winning sound engineer John Eargle was himself an organist, and thus had a particular passion for capturing the instrument’s full range of sonorities and effects. Delos has an exclusive contract to record the magnificent organ of the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels in Los Angeles.
Acoustic Jazz
Joe Williams won his only GRAMMY for his Delos album, “Nothin’ but the Blues.” Also outstanding in the Delos jazz series are “Shut Yo’ Mouth” (Slam Stewart, Major Holley), “Having Fun” (Clark Terry), “Looking Back” (Jimmy and Stacey Rowles), “Trumpets No End” (Bobby Shew, Chuck Findley), and “I Never Went Away” (Richard Rodney Bennett). Joe Williams summed it all up with his second album for Delos, “I Just Want to Sing.”
World Music
Delos’ “Caribbean Carnival” series offers authentic steelband music from Trinidad and Tobago, played by the masters of the genre and Caribbean Carnival Competition winners. The 15 albums in this colorful collection include music by Jit Samaroo, Ray Holman, The Samaroo Jets, the Amoco Renegades, and other Steelbands of Trinidad and Tobago. Six evergreens in the Delos distribution catalog feature timeless music from Indian sitar virtuoso Ravi Shankar, his daughter Lakshmi Shankar, and other masters of Indian music. Violinist Sasha Rozhdestvensky and his Ambar ensemble offer lively Hispanic stylings, and the Russian group Style of Five provide authentic folk material.
Creative Crossover
A number of Delos albums, including one unreleased but available in individual tracks, feature Classical Crossover in a variety of unusual approaches. There are Disney tunes arranged in the style of classical composers, Disney tunes arranged for steelband, TV theme songs arranged in the style of classical composers, and Mozart and Vivaldi with a beat. An album of special interest to film and TV producers for licensing is “The Art of the Theremin,” featuring the great thereminist Clara Rockmore playing Russian melodies. A longtime friend of inventor Lev Theremin, Clara Rockmore is accompanied here by her famous sister, Nadia Reisenberg.
