On May 6, it was announced that “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band, in partnership with the All-Star Orchestra (ASO) under the baton of prolific Delos recording artist Gerard Schwarz, had won this year’s Emmy® Award in the Special Event Coverage (Other than News and Sports) category. This was the seventh Emmy® won by ensembles under Maestro Schwarz’s direction since 2013.
The ASO—which Schwarz created in 2012—is a special ensemble made up of the finest musicians from America’s most prestigious symphony orchestras. Since 2013, the orchestra has recorded sixteen critically acclaimed programs that have been broadcast repeatedly on American Public Television (APT) stations throughout the country. These programs have featured many beloved masterpieces by the world’s immortal composers, including new works by contemporary American composers. No other public broadcasting program series over the past decade has done more to bring impeccably performed great music for symphony orchestra and (more recently) symphonic band before the general public, as well as to educate young people via associated programs.
“Jerry” Schwarz has been one of our much-loved mainstays among conductors here at Delos, having released well over two dozen recordings of music by major composers with various orchestras, in addition to several recordings from early in his career that demonstrate his prowess as a trumpet virtuoso of the highest caliber. Among his most significant Delos releases have been ones featuring music by major American composers like Alan Hovhaness, Howard Hanson, David Diamond and Walter Piston, among others.
So hearty CONGRATULATIONS to you, Jerry, from your friends at Delos … may you continue to bring the greatest symphonic music—not only to audiences in America, but throughout the world—for many years to come!
