“The three violin sonatas for violin and piano that Grieg considered at the end of his life as ‘worthy of including among my best works’ were much performed during his lifetime and in the decades that followed. After a half century of relative indifference, their worth was finally recognized, to the point that one can no longer count the complete recordings released in the last twenty years. This new one distinguishes itself by the blazing energy infused by the Armenian violinist Haik Kazazyan, who studied in Moscow and afterwards in London, then went on to win numerous international prizes. His performance is all fervor: in the vibrato, the attacks, the dynamics of nuances and the articulation. While seeking a certain savagery in his sonorities and showing off the emotional contrasts, he inhabits each movement with passionate intensity.” —Jean-Michel Molkhou, Diapason Magazine (translated by Dennis Adams)
