Examiner.com critic Stephen Smoliar reviews the new Cappella SF Light of Gold recording:
“I have to say that, while I am no great fan of most of the Christmas repertoire … I feel there is much to be said for listening to it at all in July. That is the time when the music is least contaminated by no end of syrupy arrangements, not to mention adaptations for marketing jingles. What matters most is that under Bohlin’s direction, Cappella SF has a well-balanced blend of the four vocal ranges; and all of the arrangements on this disc have much more to do with appealing to the musical values of the listener than with evoking the “Christmas spirit” … Listen to these tracks now, without commercial interference; and you are likely to find them all the more moving when Advent begins.” —Stephen Smoliar, Examiner
