Among several appreciative evaluations of Delos recordings in the current issue of American Record Guide, critic Todd Gorman posted a short, but sweet review of flutist extraordinaire Jenni Olson’s recent release of chamber music for flute, The Dreams of Birds.
He points out one of the release’s unique features, namely that Jenni “…plays the entire range of the flute family, from piccolo to bass flute” – before going on to comment that many of the contemporary composers whose music she performs “…work in film or commercial music, so these pieces are generally very listenable.” He finishes by praising the performers: “Olson is an accomplished flutist, and her collaborators play very well, too. The sound is excellent.”
How many of you have heard all four instruments of the flute family in a single recording – or at all? If you haven’t, here’s your chance to experience every one of them in highly appealing and original music – much of it written specifically for this release; and every piece is heard in its world premiere performance!
