Rising Young Stars From Former Soviet Bloc Nations To Join Maestro Constantine Orbelian And His Moscow Chamber Orchestra On December 12 For A Gala Concert Of Vocal And Instrumental Delights
In the wake of super-storm Sandy’s destruction and the extreme hardships that so many New York residents continue to suffer, a group of supremely gifted classical artists from Russia and neighboring lands will join forces to present a free concert at Carnegie Hall in Stern Auditorium on Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at 8:00 pm. This “Gift to the City of New York” concert features “New Stars for a New Century” and members of the Moscow Chamber Orchestra (MCO) under the baton of its longtime Director, Constantine Orbelian.
The event will present to the New York musical public outstanding solo artists from seven former Soviet countries that now comprise the Commonwealth of Independent States. The varied and appealing program consists of works by Tchaikovsky, Liszt, Arensky, Sarasate, Rachmaninoff, Rossini, Bizet-Waxman, Sayat Nova, Vavilov, Babadzhanyan and Shostakovich. These include evocative short orchestral pieces, prime vocal treasures and thrilling vehicles for virtuosic solo display.
To give you some idea as to the stellar qualities of these rising young virtuosos, two of them already appear with the MCO in Delos recordings. They are violinist Ripsime Ayrapetyants (Russia-Turkmenistan) on Stars of the Moscow Chamber Orchestra (DE 3327) and pianist Vadym Khodolenko (Ukraine) on iDuo (DE 3405); their glittering performances are sure to leave you hungry for more! It is just such events as this that recently earned American Maestro Orbelian the Russian Order of Friendship Medal: a singular honor awarded in recognition of his tireless efforts to promote friendship as well as cultural exposure and cross-fertilization between the Russian Federation and the rest of the world.
Free tickets are available in advance at the Carnegie Hall Box Office (Limit of 8 per person). Again, see the above-linked press release for complete concert and contact information.
Don’t miss this unique opportunity to sample some of the very finest young vocal and instrumental performers that the Russian Commonwealth of Independent States has to offer – we’ll see you there!
