Operagasm.com has a wonderful review of Verdi Opera Scenes:
“We all know how gorgeous Dmitri Hvovorstovsky is, vocally and physically (have you seen him as Onegin with Renee Fleming as Tatiana??), so there really is no need to elaborate on it…
“… Radvanovsky is beautiful and totally capable of Verdi and anything else I would imagine…If this is what Verdi (or we) wanted, then she surely is it. This disc is wonderul from the outset, beginning with the gorgeous scena that precedes “Morro, ma prima in grazia” from Un Ballo in maschera. Radvanovsky is simply beautiful as Amelia begging to see her son or to have the fates let her die…
“The highlight in my opinion of the entire disc is the recognition scene from Simon Boccanegra between father and daughter. Radvanovsky sounds quite fresh here and avoids sounding “too big” to be believable as a young girl and Dima is so incredibly tender as a father. Most heartstopping are the final upward arpeggios from the harp and Hvorostovsky singing the embrace of his daughter. The applause from the audience is welcome … you actually want to join in!” – Wade Davis
