Critic Daniel R. Coombs weighs in on Jake Heggie: The Radio Hour on Amazon with a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ review:
“Jake Heggie and his partner and librettist Gene Scheer have a genuine talent for setting words to music. All of Jake’s vocal writing is well done, captivating and very easy to listen to. This album is no exception and, yet, there are some important new directions to consider here. … I found his full choral settings of poems by Amy Lowell (“Patterns”) and Emily Dickenson (“I Shall Not Live in Vain”) to be wonderfully rewarding. I’m a complete sucker for anything by Dickenson anyway with her metronomic verses and dark, brooding but always relevant prose. These two works were for me the highlights of this album. I imagine any of Jake Heggie’s numerous fans and lovers of high quality choral writing would like this a lot.” —Daniel R. Coombs
