Respighi’s Rome

James DePreist, conductor
Oregon Symphony

Maestro DePreist and his Oregon Symphony once again enchant and excite on Delos!

This timeless journey through Respighi’s Rome, transports the listener via music to the Eternal City. Featuring the beloved Fountains of Rome, the evocative Pines of Rome and pictorial Roman Festivals this sonically superior disc is a perfect recording for every kind of listener, inspired by the extraordinary insight of maestro DePriest and the interpretive sensitivity offered by the Oregon Symphony. Accessible as well as beautiful! Prior to the emergence of Ottorino Respighi, Italy had produced no significant composer of non-vocal work since the high Baroque. Deeply influenced by lessons with Rimsky-Korsakov as well as a sojourn in Berlin under the heady influence of Richard Strauss, Respighi strove to recapture the vanished orchestral style and spirits of Vivaldi, Corelli and Scarlatti. Blending both historic themes and contemporary trends in orchestration, Resphigi brought centuries of music together in these featured works.
