Twelve Fantasies for Flute

Thomas Robertello, flute

“Georg Philipp Telemann gave flutists a generous and lasting gift,” says Thomas Robertello, “a vehicle for self-expression.”

Internationally acclaimed for his musical imagination and virtuosity, Robertello gives a warm, glowing performance of this delightful music. As he reminds his listeners, the Telemann Fantasies “were as groundbreaking when they were written, as they are beautiful and interesting today.” Mr. Robertello enjoys a multifaceted career as a soloist with orchestra, recitalist, chamber musician, orchestral player and teacher. He is well-known for his solo appearances and masterclasses throughout the US and Japan, as well as Shanghai, China; South America; South Korea; Hungary; Austria, and many others. One of the leading flute professors in the world, he is currently on the faculty of Indiana University School of Music. In this recording, Thomas Robertello plays a flute by David Straubinger, and in the booklet pays tribute to Straubinger’s flute-making artistry: “David’s vision for the flute and the dedication he has shown for its advancement will affect generations of flutists and flute makers worldwide. Without his beautiful craftsmanship my own vision for the pieces on this recording would not have been fully realized.
