The following is from a review of the Pacific Chorale’s world premiere of Frank Ticheli’s The Shore which is now a world premiere recording:
“In ‘The Shore,’ Ticheli composes in an accessible, tonal and frankly expressive idiom. … I enjoyed the piece for its bright, moody and delicate colorations (both instrumental and choral), its straightforwardness and frankness (Ticheli’s music clarified and bolstered the poetry) and for the way it didn’t hit the listener over the head. ‘The Shore’ is mostly subtle and quiet and contemplative. It is also proficient and confident, never wandering, never at a loss and just unfolding in its own sweet and measured time.” —Timothy Mangan, Orange County Register
