A recent announcement on the OPERAWIRE website revealed that the voice contest in the upcoming 16th International Tchaikovsky Competition (beginning June 17) will offer a special new prize in memory of legendary operatic baritone and Delos Artist Dmitri Hvorostovsky. The prize will include an award of $15,000 USD and a performance in the Russian city of Krasnoyarsk: Hvorostovsky’s hometown.
Video coverage of the various sections of the competition—to include the vocal contest—will be broadcast on Medici.tv, where events will be streamed on seven different channels.
The Tchaikovsky competition—often called “the Olympics of classical music”—is going all-out to promote the high standards and international visibility of the voice competition. The jury will feature an exceptionally prestigious array of opera greats, to include (among others) Ferrucio Furlanetto, Susan Graham, Edita Gruberova, Mikhail Petrenko, Matti Salminen and Neil Shicoff.
We at Delos send our warmest GOOD LUCK wishes to all of the vocal competitors as they compete for this distinguished award in memory of our beloved “Dima” Hvorostovsky!
