Upon hearing the Reinecke Cello Concerto for the first time, American Record Guide critic David Moore says, “I can recommend it highly as a powerful and beautifully lyrical work, played to a turn by Samis and the orchestra.” Along with rave reactions from each of the pieces on the recording, Moore ends with praise for one of the newest works on the recording: “Osvaldo Golijov’s Mariel for cello and marimba is another memorial, previously recorded by its dedicatee, Maya Beiser. But wait a minute. She recorded it as a piece for many cellos, resulting in quite a different effect from this version where the marimba offers important background for the cello. This is well worth hearing! So was Beiser’s, but this appears to be the original concept. This is a varied and well-played program where the Reinecke Concerto is the main item.”
