French outlet, Le Devoir has a new review for Dmitri Hvorostovsky Sings of War, Peace, Love and Sorrow:
“[Dmitri Hvorostovsky’s] voice has lost none of its breadth…After a scene from War and Peace by Prokofiev and some Tchaikovsky arias (Mazeppa, Iolanta and The Queen of Spades, with a thunderous Ballade by Tomski), the last half of the program is devoted to the final scene from Anton Rubenstein’s The Demon, a major discovery for many. This association is a true pedestal for the excellent soprano Asmik Grigorian. Let us hope that Hvorostovsky will recover well from the effects of the illness that has stricken him.” —Christophe Huss, Le Dvoir (Translation by Dennis Adams and Lindsay Koob)
